One PDF label cropper for any shipping label

Not every shipping label comes from a big marketplace. Many Indian sellers also sell through their own website, through social media, through chat orders and through courier booking platforms, and each of those routes produces a label in a slightly different PDF layout. The PDF Label Cropper on this page is for all of them. It makes no assumptions about where a label came from. You give it a PDF, it finds the printed label on every page, removes the empty paper around it and returns a new PDF in which each page is 4 inches wide and 6 inches tall by default, ready for a thermal label printer.

Use it for any courier label PDF, a label booked through your own online store, or a mixed batch from several sources that all need to become thermal-size files.

If you only sell on one marketplace, you can use the dedicated pages for Flipkart, Amazon, Meesho, Myntra, Snapdeal, GlowRoad and Ajio. They all run the same engine as this page, so the results are the same. This general page is for everything else, and for sellers who handle labels from many sources in the same day.

LabelsCropper is an independent website. It is not connected with any marketplace, courier or shipping platform, and it has no access to any account. It works only on a file that you provide.

Who uses a general PDF label cropper

The audience is wider than it first appears. Here are the groups who most often need a tool that is not tied to one marketplace.

How to use the PDF Label Cropper

  1. Get your PDF. Download the shipping label from the website or portal where you booked the courier. Any PDF with one label per page, or one label and some other content per page, will work.
  2. Choose the file. Drag it into the upload box above, or click the box and select it. There is no fixed page-count or file-size cap. Very large PDFs depend on available browser/device memory.
  3. Pick padding. Tight is 2 percent, Normal is 6 percent and Loose is 12 percent of the label size, added as white space on each side.
  4. Pick the crop mode. Label only keeps the first main section of every page and leaves out a lower section when there is a clear empty gap between them. Keep everything on page crops around all printed content.
  5. Wait while it works. A bar shows progress, and the tool reports when the file is ready.
  6. Download and print. The 4x6 PDF is saved to your device. Check the first label and print at actual size on a 4x6 printer.

The cropping method in depth

Because this tool is meant for any layout, it is worth looking closely at how it makes decisions. The method is deliberately simple and does not depend on knowing the label design in advance.

Loading libraries only when needed

When you choose a file, the browser fetches PDF.js to read the file and jsPDF to write the output. They are loaded after you choose a file, not when the page opens. This keeps the page quick to display.

Turning each page into a picture

Each page is drawn on a hidden canvas at twice the normal PDF scale. A white background is painted first, so transparent areas of the PDF count as white rather than black.

Finding the content

The tool then scans the picture. A pixel counts as content when any of its red, green or blue values is below 242 out of 255. This threshold ignores faint paper texture and compression noise but still sees light grey lines. The scan samples every second pixel in each direction to stay fast.

Splitting the page into sections

Rows that contain content are joined into runs. Two runs belong to the same section unless the empty band between them is taller than about 3.5 percent of the page height. Sections shorter than about 8 percent of the page height are treated as stray marks and are ignored in Label only mode.

Choosing, padding and redrawing

In Label only mode, the first substantial section is chosen. In Keep everything mode, the whole content area is used. Your padding is added, and only that area is drawn again at about 1200 pixels across, close to 300 dpi at a width of 4 inches. Limiting the redraw to the chosen area keeps memory use low on phones.

Building the output

Each redrawn area is saved as a high-quality image and placed on a 4x6 inch page with a margin of 0.12 inch, scaled to fit without any stretching and centered across the width. All pages are collected into one PDF.

What the tool can and cannot do

An honest list of limits helps you decide whether the tool fits your job.

If you often receive pages with several labels on one sheet, a good workaround is to ask the courier portal for a one-label-per-page format, which many portals offer.

Understanding the 4x6 label size

A 4x6 label is 4 inches wide and 6 inches tall. It is the most common parcel label size worldwide, which is why almost every thermal printer supports it. The table shows the same size in different units.

UnitValue
Inches4 x 6
Millimetresabout 101.6 x 152.4 (rolls are sold as 100 x 150)
PDF points288 x 432
Pixels at 203 dpi812 x 1218
Pixels at 300 dpi1200 x 1800
Aspect ratio2 : 3

The 2:3 aspect ratio explains why the tool never stretches a label. A label that is wider than 2:3 is scaled until its width fills the page, and one that is taller is scaled until its height fills the page. Either way, the proportions of the label are kept.

When you change the roll, run the printer's calibration. After calibration, print one label and compare it with the preview on your screen.

A workflow for sellers with many label sources

When labels come from several places, a short routine keeps them under control.

Compared with other ways to resize labels

There are several ways to get a 4x6 label from an A4 PDF, and each has trade-offs.

Desktop PDF editors give you complete control, but you must crop each page by hand, which takes time and may need a paid licence. Print settings such as printing a selected area work for one label but are hard to repeat for a hundred. Online converters are quick, but many upload your file to a server, which is a privacy risk for labels that contain customer data. Custom scripts can automate the process, but they need technical skill and maintenance.

This tool aims at the middle ground: automatic like a script, simple like a web page and private because the work is done in your own browser.

Privacy: the file never leaves your device

Because the PDF is read and cropped by code running in your browser, we never receive it. No copy is stored, no account is linked to it and no one on our side can open it. The page does fetch two public libraries and a web font, and those requests contain no label data. For details, including advertising cookies, read the privacy policy.

Troubleshooting

Getting the best results from your source PDF

The quality of the output depends a great deal on the quality of the input, so a few habits at the download stage will save trouble later.

First, always download the label from the original source rather than taking a screenshot or a photo of it. A PDF contains sharp vector shapes and text that can be redrawn at any size, while a screenshot is a fixed grid of pixels that gets blurry when it is enlarged. If the only version you have is a screenshot placed inside a PDF, the cropper will still work, but the barcode can only be as sharp as the original picture.

Second, avoid opening a label PDF in one program and saving it again in another before you crop it. Each conversion step can change the page size, add margins or flatten transparency. If you can, use the file exactly as the label provider gave it to you.

Third, check the page setup at the source if the portal lets you choose. Some portals offer options such as A4, A5 or 4x6 label output, with one label per page or several. A one-label-per-page choice gives the best result with this tool. If the portal already offers a 4x6 option, you may not need to crop at all, though the cropper can still tidy the margins.

Fourth, look at the first page before you upload. If you can see that it contains the label and a large block of other text, you know in advance that Label only mode is the right choice. If you can see that the label is already tight to the edges of the page, a Loose padding setting is unlikely to be needed.

More output sizes and a separate invoice file

The default output is 4x6 inches, but the Output size menu above the upload box also offers 100 x 150 mm, A6, A5, 3 x 5 in, 4 x 4 in and a custom width and height in millimetres. If you print on an ordinary office printer, choose an A4 sheet with 2 or 4 labels and the tool arranges the labels on each sheet so you can cut them apart. The size you pick is remembered on this device.

If your PDF has the invoice printed below the label, tick the option to save the invoice part as a separate PDF. The label file downloads as usual, and a Download invoices PDF button appears with the invoice parts on A4 pages. This works in Label only mode and needs a clear empty gap between the label and the invoice. If none is found, the tool tells you.

Browsers, devices and accessibility

The tool needs a current browser with support for canvas drawing and for downloading files, which every mainstream browser provides. It has been written to work on Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on Android phones, iPhones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers. Older browsers that cannot run modern scripts may fail to load the PDF engine, in which case an update usually solves the problem.

Memory is the main limit on phones. The tool draws one page at a time and releases the memory afterwards, and it draws only the label area at the final high resolution, so most phones cope well with files of a hundred pages or so. If a very old device slows down or the browser reloads the tab, split the file into smaller parts and process them one at a time.

For people who use a keyboard or a screen reader, the upload area can be reached with the Tab key and opened with Enter or the space bar, and the status messages are announced as they change. If you find something that does not work well with your assistive technology, please tell us through the contact page so we can improve it.

Finally, the first use of the tool on a device needs an internet connection to fetch the two libraries. After that, your browser may keep them for later, but you should not rely on offline use. The label file itself is never sent over the connection at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PDF Label Cropper for?

It crops shipping label PDFs from any source to 4x6 inches for thermal printers. It works on labels from marketplaces, courier portals, online stores and other places.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no fee, no sign-up and no watermark. There is no fixed page-count or file-size cap. Very large PDFs depend on available browser/device memory. The site is supported by advertising.

Does it upload my PDF?

No. The file is processed in your browser and never sent to our servers. We cannot see it.

What size does it produce?

By default every page is 4 x 6 inches, about 101.6 x 152.4 mm, which is 288 x 432 points.

Can it split a page that has several labels?

No. Each input page produces one output page. If your source has several labels per sheet, ask for a one-label-per-page format from the label provider.

What are the two crop modes?

Label only keeps the first main section of each page and leaves out content far below it, such as an invoice, when there is a clear gap. Keep everything on page includes all content.

What do the padding options mean?

Padding adds white space around the label: Tight is 2 percent, Normal is 6 percent and Loose is 12 percent.

Can I open password protected PDFs?

No. Remove the password in a PDF viewer first and then upload the file again.

Why is the output made of images?

Each label is redrawn at about 300 dpi and saved as an image to keep barcodes crisp. This means text cannot be selected, but printing and scanning are not affected.

Does it rotate landscape labels?

No. A landscape label is placed on the portrait page at its natural proportions, so there will be extra white space above and below.

Does it work on phones?

Yes, in current Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on Android and iPhone. Large files take longer on older devices.

Is LabelsCropper connected with any marketplace or courier?

No. It is an independent website and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any marketplace or courier. All trademarks belong to their owners.

Can I get a size other than 4x6?

Yes. The Output size menu offers 100 x 150 mm, A6, A5, 3 x 5 in, 4 x 4 in, a custom width and height in millimetres, and A4 sheets with 2 or 4 labels. Your choice is remembered on your device.

Can I save the invoice as a separate file?

Yes. Tick the option to save the invoice part as a separate PDF. In Label only mode, the tool gives you the label file as usual and a second button for the invoice pages when it finds an invoice below the label with a clear gap.
